Overview

Mending is the single most important enchantment. It uses XP orbs to repair items, making them effectively permanent. A treasure enchantment cannot be obtained from the table.

How Mending Works

XP orbs repair 2 durability per orb. The game randomly selects one Mending item with missing durability. A creeper kill repairs 10 durability across your gear.

Works on: swords, pickaxes, axes, armor, bows, crossbows, tridents, shields, elytra, fishing rods.

Getting Mending: Villager Strategy

Place lectern, check librarian trade, break/replace to reroll until Mending appears. Cost: 10-38 emeralds. Takes 5-30 minutes.

Best deal: cure a zombie villager (splash weakness + golden apple) for 1-emerald Mending books.

Mending vs Infinity

Cannot coexist on a bow. Infinity: unlimited arrows with 1 arrow in inventory. Best for exploration. Mending: permanent bow. Best with skeleton farm.

Build two bows if possible.

Priority Items for Mending

1. Elytra (most durability-hungry). 2. Pickaxe (most-used tool). 3. Armor (all four pieces). 4. Sword/Axe.

Never leave home without your Mending items. Every XP orb collected without Mending gear is wasted repair potential.

Mending on Elytra

Applying Mending to an Elytra is the single most important upgrade in endgame Minecraft. Elytra lose durability with every second of flight, and Mending is the only way to keep them operational indefinitely. Pair with Unbreaking III for maximum lifespan.
