The tall dark wanderer from the End. How to avoid triggering aggression and farm ender pearls efficiently.
Neutral Mob · The tall dark wanderer from the End.
Endermen are neutral mobs that become hostile only when provoked. The primary trigger is making direct eye contact by focusing your crosshair on their face or body. They also become aggressive when attacked or when a player is within their line of sight while wearing a player head. Once angered, Endermen open their mouths wide and tremble, then charge at the player dealing significant damage. They can teleport to evade attacks and will continue chasing until line of sight is broken. For comprehensive information on Minecraft mobs and game mechanics, visit the Minecraft Wikipedia page. Endermen are the sole renewable source of Ender Pearls, making their efficient farming critical for progression. Traditional Enderman farms utilize Endermite-in-a-minecart as bait, drawing Endermen toward a killing chamber. In the End dimension, Endermen spawn in groups of four, making End-based farms far more productive than Overworld designs. A well-built Enderman XP farm produces thousands of Ender Pearls per hour along with substantial experience orbs for enchanting equipment and repairing tools.
Endermen possess a unique teleportation ability that triggers when hit with projectiles, exposed to water or sunlight, or when taking damage. They teleport to a random location within 32 blocks, making ranged combat extremely unreliable. The best strategy is melee combat while maintaining eye contact with their feet. Water buckets are effective for breaking aggression, as Endermen teleport away upon contact with water. Carved pumpkins worn on the head prevent triggering their aggression through accidental eye contact.
Endermen are the dominant mob in the End dimension, spawning abundantly on the main island and outer islands. They are passive toward players wearing Enderman heads as a disguise. During the Ender Dragon fight, Endermen pose a significant threat by swarming distracted players. Their presence makes the Dragon fight more challenging, as players must balance Dragon attacks with avoiding Enderman aggression. End Cities on the outer islands contain Shulker mobs, Elytra, and valuable loot.
In the Overworld, Endermen spawn at night and in dark caves at light level 0. They are less common than in the End but still farmable for early-game Ender Pearls. Endermen in the Nether spawn exclusively in Nether Wastes biomes. They teleport when exposed to rain or daylight in the Overworld, making them difficult to encounter during daytime. Nether-based Enderman farms can utilize the Nether's lower mob cap for selective spawning.
