Potion brewing transforms your survival gameplay. With the right potions, breathe underwater, become immune to fire, move at superhuman speeds, and see in the dark.
Requires: Brewing Stand (1 Blaze Rod + 3 Cobblestone), Blaze Powder as fuel, and Glass Bottles.
Each Blaze Powder fuels 20 brewing operations. Add water bottles in the bottom three slots and ingredients in the top. All three bottles brew simultaneously.
Nether Wart is the required base for ALL positive effect potions. It converts Water Bottles into Awkward Potions. Found in Nether Fortresses.
Strength (Blaze Powder): +3 melee damage, 8 minutes.
Swiftness (Sugar): +20% speed, 8 minutes. Best travel potion.
Fire Resistance (Magma Cream): Total fire/lava immunity. Non-negotiable for Nether.
Night Vision (Golden Carrot): See in darkness, 8 minutes.
Water Breathing (Pufferfish): Breathe underwater, 8 minutes.
Slow Falling (Phantom Membrane): Zero fall damage, 1:30.
Add Gunpowder to make Splash Potions (area effect). Add Dragon Breath to make Lingering Potions (cloud, needed for Tipped Arrows).
Always brew extended-duration potions (with Redstone) rather than strength-II (with Glowstone). 8 minutes of Fire Resistance is far more useful than 1:30 of Strength II.
Combining potions effectively enhances survival and combat. Fire Resistance is essential for Nether exploration. Slow Falling prevents fall damage during building and boss fights. Strength II and Regeneration are ideal for boss encounters. For comprehensive Minecraft potion brewing mechanics and recipe charts, check the Minecraft Wikipedia article.
